Krav Maga was developed as a way to train a normal citizen into an effective soldier in the shortest amount of time possible. Techniques are straightforward, and effective, and cover fight skills from kicks to grappling on the ground, and all ranges of combat in between.
At Defy Krav Maga, we teach the civilian branch of Krav Maga, which better suits the needs of an average individual. You will learn to defend yourself with effective, battle tested techniques. Our classes are fun and engaging, filled with detailed instructions and challenging practice drills.
Krav Maga takes battle tested, proven to work techniques of various styles such as boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, etc. and modifies them to fit within its guiding principles. You will learn to defend yourself in all ranges of combat, from kicking with legs to down on the ground grappling.
What separates a great fighter from the rest is knowing when to apply which technique within a split second of the fight. Not only should you know how to carry out a technique, you should also know when to use it and why it works. We will teach you your options, why they work, and use cases for them in actual self defense situations.
Although Krav Maga was originally developed to train soldiers, it has now been adapted to suit the needs of civilians, while maintaining the core concept of getting an average person into an effective fighter as quickly as possible
Krav Maga works for everybody, not just trained fighters or gold medal athletes. You do not need to outspeed or out-muscle your opponent. Instead, you will learn to use leverage, momentum, and biomechanical knowledge to mount an effective defense and counterattack.
Classes are informative, fun, and challenging. We care about you and your success in learning to defend yourself. You will receive detailed instructions and individual feedback in class, and gain practical application skills in realistic drills.
The two biggest aspects of Krav Maga that set it apart from martial arts are as follows:
1) Krav Maga is 100% martial, 0% art. Krav Maga was made with only one real purpose in mind, survival.
2) Krav Maga is about utility, not maintaining tradition. Martial arts will continue teaching techniques even if that are no longer effective in the name of tradition. Krav Maga, on the other hand, is constantly evolving and changing to become easier-to-learn, easier-to-use, and more effective for everyone. If a technique or defense isn’t working, it gets either reworked or replaced.
Krav Maga is about fighting for survival, not competition or entertainment. The system does not rule out techniques for “good sportsmanship”, because that’s doesn’t matter in a self defense situation. For example, UFC has long banned techniques such as headbutting, eye-gouging, and groin-strikes. These techniques are, for the same reasons they were banned, Krav Maga’s bread-and-butter and crucial to real-life self defense.
Krav Maga techniques work using leverage and momentum, so even if the opponent is bigger or stronger, the techniques still work.
The system is also streamlined so that techniques never contradict each other, so there will be less confusion, especially under stressful self defense situations
Krav Maga is very beginner friendly! You don’t need any prior experience in combat, nor do you need to be fit. Krav Maga works for people of all shapes, sizes, and experience levels.
There are 5 levels within the Krav Maga system. You will need to master the skills in each level to pass the test onto the next rank.
